Winkies’ Wrapups Dec 3rd
Hello Winkies, Today we spent the day in downtown Wiesbaden. We spent almost 45 minutes looking for parking. In the past year I find the best time to visit, is during the week day. This is because I am banking on everyone being at work so I can find a parking platz with ease and have plenty of space to walk at our leisure. Apparently the Sternschnuppenmarkt, or the Twinkling Star Christmas Market, is not your unusual festive fair. It is not the biggest event I have seen downtown but it is worth the effort. Mainly because I do enjoy the Christmas theme and that makes it hard to resist. As we walked around I took…

Winkies’ Wednesday Wrapups Nov 4th
Hello Winkies, In an effort to be more consistent with my blog writing I joined Sarah Arrow’s 30 Day Blogging Challenge. I have no idea why I thought it would be a good idea to take this challenge and attempt the NaNoWriMo at the same time. I must have thought I would already be in the writing zone and it couldn’t possibly hurt. Well it’s painfully obvious to me that the effort for each forces me to be present in two different zones! Here are the posts you missed this week; Day 1: Eltville am Rhein Wine Tour I share what we learned about the Rheingau Region, from the wine glass’…

Dear Winkie
Dear Winkie, I was thinking about changing our homeschool’s name to something with a Star Wars reference. Conferring with Neko he thought it should be ‘The Revanites’. Masters who sought the balance of both the dark side and light side of the force. Believing neither one path (Jedi or Sith) was the answer, but rather being reborn to walk a path that was neither. I think it’s kind of fitting for us. Though I am not sure how that should look on a diploma someday… Revanites Temple of Knowledge? Revan High School? Star Forge Academy? As we near the end of our school year I am looking at the activities…

Where we wandered in April 2015
Dear April, With camera in hand I went out with an intention of taking pictures of our life with you. I discovered that a nice camera doesn’t mean you will instantly have better pictures. It did provide a better quality and in a way it was therapeutic for me. And as an art form – a way for me to express what I see. As enjoyable as it was, it was equally frustrating to see something and miss capturing the right moment. Around the 2000th shot, I decided I was making the process too difficult by trying to capture the perfect moment. Mostly because I wanted to keep all of…

Are you a Happy Winkie?
Winkie is actually a nickname given to me in the Marine Corps based off my my maiden name. One day the laundry was being passed out and someone abbreviated my name and called out “Winke” to get my attention. Drill Instructor Sgt Henderson heard and she had a fit. “Winke?” I thought I was going to die and it wasn’t even my fault. Looking into the face of death she said, “I am gonna winke you out of here!” After that my fate was sealed. When the DIs were out of the room everyone called me Winke. If they slipped and said it in front of them… I received extra…

What to do with Quail Eggs
I decided to order Quail eggs. It had been awhile and I saw a really good deal for them… I admit the free shipping suckered me… Once they arrived… I had no clue what to do with them. I had never cooked them before, but I figured they were similar to regular eggs. I did remember them as a garnish or part of a soup…
