Festival of Lights at Schloss Schwetzingen, a true German Gem

Honey Bear and I received a little tip that Schwetzingen, a place 15 minutes outside of Heidelberg, was putting on a firework show and we should head down to check it out.  An hour later we found ourselves checking out several nice options for dining on the Schlossplatz.  Realizing we weren’t hungry we continued walking around the Schlossplatz and found ourselves in front of two interesting sculptures, one of a woman selling asparagus and one of a couple riding a pig. We found this local article that explained the city celebrated its 1250th birthday in 2016 with an iconic sculpture created by Peter Lenk; The man riding the pig is Elector Carl Theodor…

    Capturing Prague with Kids

Prague was a beautiful place to stroll and explore with family and friends! The hardest part was figuring out how to buy our tickets for the tram into town.  Thankfully our hotel gave us a nice map and explained which type of tram tickets were available. Day One Making our way to the connection closest to us, we realized we had a different problem-finding a way to pay for our fare.  Finally I spotted something green and the size of a trash can between two sheltered bus benches.  Was that it? Yes it was.  We guesstimated which line was the right one and hoped it would take us to the…

    Cooking with Chef Jan

Now that we have our Spargel from the market (see last week’s post), it’s time to head to the lovely Chef Jan’s kitchen to see what we can do with it! Thank you for watching!   I had a lot of fun shooting these videos with my friend Chef Jan.  The hardest part came down to figuring out how to take 60 minutes worth of information and cut it down to 6 minutes or less-there simply was too much personality in the room to pack into such a short time.  Then again, that is why cooking with Jan is such a joy! Hopefully you enjoyed the way they turned out-I certainly did! Like…

Our Four Day London Adventure with Kids!

With my tourist hat on and our bags packed we headed to the one destination everyone was looking forward to-London!  A joy and a challenge because we represent a wide variety of interest and we must figure it out in 4 days or less. Day One An early morning flight and a bus ride later we arrived bleary eyed at our hotel.  We were in need of a late breakfast or an early lunch.  Perhaps we could get lucky and find one on our way to the first point of interest, or maybe I needed to change the first stop of the day to put us closer to a pancake…

Shopping for Spargel with Chef Jan

“You know what we should do?” “What?” “We should make a video-about spargel!” The idea seemed so easy at the time.  But when the Good Idea Fairy visits you and your friend in a charming unassuming French cafe, you take it all in with your cup of coffee and you get down to business making a video about a vegetable. Of course I have never done a video before, so there was a bit of a learning curve.  One where hours of frustration resulted.  Mostly with trying to get a highly recommended video editing program to work without crashing.  After losing hours of sleep I ended that relationship.  And since…
